This is an image of Deku (Izuku Midoriya) from My Hero Academia.

My Hero Academia tells the story of Deku, a boy born without Quirks, who dreams of becoming a superhero and enrolls in a high school that trains future superheroes.

Athletes like Messi or artists like Billie Eilish are often called superstars. So what exactly is a superhero? In Japan, there was an anime called Kinnikuman "Muscle Man" that was as popular as Dragon Ball. Kinnikuman is usually timid, but when his friends or the world are in danger, he fights bravely in the wrestling ring.

The new Anime Hop single My Rap Academia will be released on December 16. If you like, please also check out the new track SPY x RAPPER released on December 5, as well as the newly remixed and remastered versions of Frieren Beyond HipHop's Rap, Rap of Longinus, and Cowboy BeRap from last week.

If being victorious or simply being strong were enough to make someone a superhero, then leaders who start wars of aggression, bullies might all qualify as superheroes. But that is not true.

"One for all, and all for one."

When you watch My Hero Academia, I recommend watching the original Japanese version. So to close, I would like to quote my favorite line from the theme song of Kinnikuman "Kinnikuman Go Fight!", who is my superhero. See you.

“Ah, but if the love is not there in your heart, you are no superhero.”

The new Anime Hop single, "My Rap Academia" will be released on Spotify and others on Dec 16.

Ten years ago, I saw music fans and hip-hop critics who looked down on Vocaloid rap, saying it wasn’t “real rap.” At that moment, I made up my mind to someday create a kind of fake rap that would make those people furious.

Later, there was a time when I thought about inviting a real rapper as a guest to make a rap song, but I gave up on the idea because it went against my decision to reject the rules of real rap. However, about a year and a half ago, after meeting a kind Korean fan of Xinlisupreme, I reached out to various voice actors, gave the lyrics to those who responded, and had them actually record performances that sounded like anime superheroes.

First, I took inspiration from the anime audio dramas I heard as a kid and made a rap from short phrases. Just like a thumbs-up is instantly recognized around the world as “Good!”, I inserted the phrase “Yo YoYo Hey men!” between spoken lines as a symbolic verbal gesture for rap. By doing so, I made sure the following spoken lines were recognized as rap. In other words, I turned rap into anime. It’s not about following the rules of “real rap.” It’s just to be free.

My first crush was a Black anime character. It may not amount to discrimination, but it is an undeniable fact that Black characters are unnaturally rare in Japanese anime, so I hope there will be more of them. I also believe that the hip hop mindset that looks down on or calls White, Asian, or Vocaloid rappers fake is fundamentally wrong. That is why I decided to create a new form of hip hop myself.

Rules don’t make rap.
Hip-hop is what I say it is.
This is Anime Hop.
